Fish glue is a universal adhesive that is suitable for bonding applications where both high tack and flexibility are required. At room temperature it has the consistency of a viscous liquid, when cooled (even to sub-zero temperatures) it takes on the consistency of rubber. After heating, the product liquefies again without loss of quality.
Fish glue is suitable for gluing wood, plywood, paper and fabric. It is also used to bond metals or tortoiseshell to wood and as a bonding material for glass or porcelain. The product can be diluted with vinegar, water or milk. Can also be mixed with other adhesives such as gum arabic or starch adhesives.
Fish glue is a purely natural product that is extracted from the bones, skin and cartilage of cod (by boiling and subsequent extraction using hot steam). The preparation contains a small amount of sassafras essential oil. The shelf life of fish glue is 1 year from the date of filling; however, according to the experience of Kremer, the shelf life of the product is 10 years.
